In the past, things like distance, and awareness, limited people’s participation in social issues. While there are some barriers between people and some social issues, today most of the things that would have prevented a person to participate are no longer in place. In today’s society, there are many ways to bring about change. With one of the most popular way is using social networking, film and art to bridge the gap of both the affected group and the ones that are not aware to the living conditions of the people in that area. In class, we have been watching and analyzing an artist name Vic Muniz. For instance, the movies was supposed to be about showing the struggle of the people that the art pieces are made in honor of, but it only showed them on a good day. Of the two years that the artist spent in the place the only negative parts were only heard about, but never shown. And I feel as though for emotion to be truly captured and for change to truly come to a place like that there could have been more done in the member’s honor. In America, everyone knows or at least have an idea of what blacks go through just because they were born looking a certain way. It has gotten to the point where more and more whites are stepping in to help us overcome this struggle. While in places like Brazil, everyone was perceived as the same and to have no physical barriers between each other, so there are little obvious barriers except class. I feel this way because it brought change to many people’s lives. After the filming of the “The Wasteland”, the people who had some of the paintings made n their honor changed their lives. Not everyone had the courage to walk away from the life as they knew it, but the ones that did seemed happy about it. However, Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” made a large impact also. Both the video and the song itself brought about change in the community and in others. It received universal recognition as being a great form of expression not only musically, but also poetically. The song prompted strong reactions across the board. There were people that opposed it in its entirety, and there were some that supported it every step of the way. I feel as though, to bring about change it would cause people to take sides in either disapproval to keep the world the same or it would help light the torch to the flames of anger in those that support him and his entire movement. With that being said though, I still believe that Vic had a greater support group than he had people that opposed his decisions. The only issues he faced after the work was done, was simply, how much should he expose the people whose lives he already touched. He waned to show them the world that he lived in, but his advisors and people around him felt that it would be overwhelming to the people from the little
