“The Water Cell” is the third section in the novel Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi. This chapter tells us about the people’s demonstration against the army, and about her Family history. She find out how the father of the Shah took his grandfather’s position by giving oil to those very influential British people. The father of the Shah confiscated everything he owned. Later on, his grandfather was named Prime Minister, and studied in Europe. He met intellectuals and later on he became a communist. As a result, her grandfather was often sent to prison. Sometimes, they put him in a cell filled with water. Prison destroyed his health and rheumatism. Later on, Marjane took a long bath to see what’s the effect of being in the water for long
