Water Cycle Effects

Water is a vital element on Earth. According to Doršner, K. (2016), “Almost all Living processes require water”. Human beings need and use water in all corners of life. Maintaining and sustaining a water cycle should be at the heart of every individual, if we want life to continue on Earth.
The water cycle is an on-going process. The heat from the sun heats the water on the surface of the seas, and heats up the ice, which causes the water to evaporate into the atmosphere where it condenses. The condensed water vapour precipitates down to the surface as rainfall (Doršner, K 2016), . The rain gets back into the water bodies as run-off or ground water. The rest is absorbed by plants. The plants use the water for metabolic processes and the …show more content…

From the look of things, I have found that these impacts cause more harm than good. If the water cycle is disturbed, my farming processes will be negatively affected. The first effect is that, the washing away of a fertile top soil would lead to a poor harvest, since all the required nutrients for the crops to grow would be washed away. The loss of fertile soil can lead to an increase in the cost of production due to the use of inorganic fertilizer. The other effect is that, if the water cycle is disturbed, the amount of rainfall per season will be affected which will also affect agricultural production since the processes of the water cycle have been disturbed. Therefore, it is really important to maintain and sustain the water cycle in order to reduce costs and increase harvests in agriculture and realise maximum profit at the …show more content…

What I would do is to give up a number of agricultural practises and follow farming methods that favour environmental conservation and sustainability. Since the area has been cleared already, as a farmer I would firstly resort to start practising agroforestry. Agroforestry requires a farmer to incorporate crops and trees on the same piece of land. This would increase the availability of trees which assists the water cycle. I would also give up the practise of clearing more land for farming by following a crop diversification method which allows a farmer to grow more than one crop on the same piece of land. To avoid run-off, I would use mulching in order to avoid losing the most required fertile top
