Military mistakes, natural disasters, these are just a couple of ways Rome began to fall. Rome was falling, the reasons why are natural disaster and diseases, military mistakes, and foreign invasions. Natural disaster and diseases were one of many reasons Rome began to fall. This is the most biggest cause of the falling because “The Roman world was shaken by a violent and destructive earthquake.” (Document F)
The Western Roman empire fell in 476 C.E.. The Roman Empire lasted nearly 500 years. Before the fall of the Western Empire, Constantine split the Roman Empire into two parts, west and east. He moved the government and the capital to Byzantine (later renamed Constantinople). While ancient Rome and modern day America are very different in some ways, they are similar in other ways.
“The division of the empire made it more easily governed in the short term, but over time the two halves drifted apart,”(Doc 9). When the halves drifted apart, they had trouble working together to fight off all of the invaders, and they started to fight over materials. In addition, when the Eastern Empire began to grow strong while the Western was weak, the invaders decided to attack the Western Empire more, causing Rome to weaken even more. Also, Rome had a problem getting leaders that lasted longer than a few years. Rome had 19 different leaders from 235 to 285 CE, and at least 15 of them were murdered (Doc 1).
I agree that Rome was not overthrown by external enemies but was defeated by its own internal problems. The fall of Rome was mainly due to internal problems because the Romans were only fulfilling their own needs, the law were not reliable and the struggle with the right emperor led to the end of Rome. These internal problems made the empire unstable and led to external problems. For example, in document C, Marcellinus, a Roman soldier criticizes the Romans for being selfish and only worrying about themselves.
The fall of the Roman Empire in 476 C.E. happened for many reasons. The first reason being the laziness of the Roman Empire’s military. The second reason is that many natural disasters including diseases struck the empire. The third and final reason is the social injustices that weakened patriotic spirit for Romans.
During the late period of Western Rome (ca. 476 C.E.), many drastic mistakes were made that contributed to the fall of the empire. These mistakes included an insecure government, invasions, and lack of communications. However, while these problems occurred thousands of years ago, there are still many lessons America can learn from the downfall of the empire. There are also many potential aspects America possesses for solving these problems if they occurred today, including a more sophisticated security system, a stronger military, and a better communication system. One major lesson America can learn from Rome is to have a secure government.
The Roman Empire was, without a doubt, one of the most impressive governing body ever in its time. Its military was among one of the finest around. The Fall of the Roman Empire is one of the most memorable setbacks of one of the greatest civilizations to ever exist. Many theories have been said as to the cause of the empire’s fall but, even today, there are still unanswered discussions on what the specific factors were. There are numerous of factors that contributed to the empire’s fall such as the effectiveness of their army, the health of its citizens, the strength of the economy, the capability of the successors, the continuous battle for power, religion and the regulation of their administration. Since the romans were not doing good Economically they could not fund the military in order to protect them, which also led to the fall of their military. Socio-Political problems were also a factor; there was a decline in interest to public affairs.

The legendary Roman Empire lasted from 753 B.C.E. all the way until 1453 A.D. However Rome split in two at about 395 A.D. which crippled the ancient Rome we know. So really ancient Rome lived from 753 B.C.E. to 476 A.D. But the name of Rome continued on in the Byzantine empire for about another 1000 years. Yet many people nowadays still refer to Rome as one of the greatest ancient civilizations of all time.
