Society’s Impact on an Individual
Jacob Rees-Mogg once made a strong announcement, “People coming together as a community can make things happen.” This statement demonstrates how when a group of people within a society come together; a person can be affected in a helpful way. One can see the influence that a society has on an individual every day in the outside world. The impression can be seen with the support of a friend or teacher, the caring demonstrated by companions, or even within your own family. Society can impact an individual in a positive way as seen by the actions of many within the Olivet Eagles Football team, the message of “The World is Not a Pleasant Place to Be” by Nikki Giovanni, and The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.

Hinton is about a gang and its members which are greasers and their fights against the socs (the socials) and their daily life. The greasers are cool and poor high-school dropouts mostly, and then there’s the socs which are rich kids with nice cars and they worry about good grades. In the novel, Dallas Winston (Dally) gets a bad effect from society because he is from the streets of New York where someone is always getting mugged or killed. Dally was in jail when he was ten years old. Ponyboy Curtis (Pony) is pretty much the only greaser who is still in school because his big brother Darrel (Darry) encourages him to stay in school and get good grades so Pony could go to a good college so that he doesn’t end up like your typical greaser.
