Characters serve as the metaphorical foundation upon which a story is written. In fact, the personalities of characters often reveal the outcome of a story’s plot before the author explicitly states it. In Flannery O’Connor’s short story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find,” the self-indulgent grandmother portrays the outcome of her attempted evangelism through her sanctimonious nature. Through her illegitimate Christian appearance based on deceit and self-elevation, her failed attempt to persuade the Misfit can be attributed to her hypocritical personality.

Both characters have influential changes that show a immediate realization of Christ and a change in their ways. The Grandmother is “A good man in hard to find” is a very interesting character.

Christians outlook on mankind is that all humans’ natural instincts are to be sinful, self-centered people who put their desires first. However, Christians also believe that God calls them to be loving, gracious, good-natured people who put others needs above their own. In “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, the self-centered and prideful character of the grandma is repeatedly underscored by her actions to her family.
When comparing and contrasting the two short stories “A Good Man is Hard to Find” and “Revelation” written by Flannery O’Connor, many similarities are noticed between the main characters as well as many differences. The author of the short stories based them on rejection and redemption in the modern world and it is shown in both stories. The Grandmother and Mrs. Turpin are similar and opposite when comparing being selfish and hypocritical, as well the amount of grace in each character’s life’s. Both the grandmother from “A Good Man is Had to Find” and Mrs. Turpin from “Revelation” are selfish characters but show their selfishness in different ways.
In the story "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor, there is no doubt the reader should consider the grandmother a villain. Throughout the story, it is easy to assume the grandmother would eventually lead the family to some sort of downfall. The grandmother has many traits that make her a villain, and through her judgemental nature, selfish acts, and inability to stop talking, she leads her family and herself to their death. Throughout the story it is obvious that the grandmother is very judgemental of people and seems to consider herself as better than everyone.
Two stories “A Good Man is Hard to Find” and “Revelation” by Flannery O' Conner both share a similar theme. The theme most common throughout both stories is religion. The author uses racism and religion in most of her stories and characters all seem to have similar personality traits. A few comparisons between “Revelation” and “A Good Man is Hard to Find” is that both these stories start off quick and to the point. These two stories contain a strong sense of superiority of their characters.

The religious and moral themes of her short story, A Good Man is Hard to Find, converge on the character of the grandmother. Despite the self-proclamations of fulfilling what it means to be a Southern lady, Grandmother holds a superficial grasp of her religion. Throughout the story, the Grandmother never truly changed, only her ostensible actions did.

The family begin pleading and talking with the criminal to avoid their demise, but end up failing.
For the vast majority of the public, the Grandmother in Flannery O’Conner’s A Good Man Is Hard to Find may seem, by all accounts, to be dissimilar in relation to the Misfit, yet in this exposition, their characters will be comparable in their religious thoughts and principles. The Grandmother is a character quite striking on her own, and O’Conner’s is able to bring her more to life with the characters that she writes to interact with the Grandmother. She is a mother, a religious woman, who is not afraid to speak her mind. She holds high standards for her family, calling out her son for wanting to take them down to Florida where the Misfit has been known to be, she is critical of her daughter-in-law, and even her own grandchildren she chastises.

Flannery O’Connor’s short story, which is called “Revelation,” has an intriguing and complex theme. The theme is that anyone who considers himself or herself a righteous person, but does not treat all people with equal value, must change his or her actions, or he or she is not truly righteous at all. This theme is evident through careful examination of the plot, characters, setting, and even the author herself.
In the short story, “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, Flannery O’Connor’s goal is to teach her readers an important lesson. By presenting an exaggerated and flawed character, and through a peek into her life, she displays the consequences of many faults, but most importantly, the danger of a lack of self-awareness. By the end of the story, the main character, Grandmother, has had an epiphany, brought on by a traumatizing event. By giving them an outside view of the folly of her character, Flannery O’Connor hopes to warn her readers of following the same path that will inevitably lead to destruction in some way or another.
As you can see her stories are surrounded by her belief. In today’s world societal morals and values have drastically crumbled making the world an unacceptable place. Flannery O’Conner’s “A Good Man is Hard to Find” moves from a family comedy into a brutal revelation while on a family vacation. While on the way to find the homestead where grandmother grew up, she puts them down the wrong path right into a murderer’s escape route.
An enriching story of religious context and an overview of the difference between saying what you want to say and acting upon what you say. Whether or not the Grandmother 's final act was an act of charity or redemption, the story still professes to be careful of what decisions are made and which ones
People are the cookies in life. This means people look nice and sweet but not always are. I am thankful for Norman, parents and friends I am thankful for Norman because we have been best friends for at least 7 or 8 years and we have done a lot of stuff together and helped each other out when we needed it. One example, is back in middle school we would help each other with homework and with little stuff like that.
