Have you ever moved to a new school and tried to fit in, but you couldn’t? Well, that’s what Roberta experienced, but eventually, she found a way to fit in. In the book “Superman Smashes The Klan,” Roberta and her family are new to Metropolis. Her brother, Tommy, fits in with the new people and environment well, but Roberta doesn’t. She tries to fit in, but she can’t. The theme of “Be Yourself” is shown in SSTK through Roberta’s having trouble fitting in. One example of where the theme of “Be Yourself” is when Tommy is playing baseball, and Roberta is talking to some girl on the sidelines. Roberta says, “Your brother’s spectacular! Do you think it would be okay if I go and say hello?” During part of SSTK, there is a baseball scene, where it shows Tommy fitting in with everyone and having fun playing baseball with his new friends. Roberta is watching, sitting on the sidelines. Eventually, she sees someone next to her and she tries talking to her. The girl that she’s talking to starts talking about her brother.
