1984: The Different Forms of Betrayal In 1984, by George Orwell, Orwell explores the different forms that betrayal can take in order to augment the disposition of loneliness and isolation. Betrayal is one of the recurring themes that is portrayed throughout the novel. Betrayal is common in Oceanian society. Betrayal often happens in 1984 through the government manipulating the characters of the story. Betrayal also occurs against Oceania through the acts and thoughts of the Julia and Winston.
