Decisions are like poison, it's quick, and can lead to vile ends. Romeo and Juliet come from feuding families, then the two fall deeply in love. They go to extreme measures to keep people from finding about their secret love. In William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet the theme of decisions leads to tragic events when Tybalt kills Mercutio, the Friar helps Juliet, and Romeo kills himself.
The decision of Tybalt killing Mercutio was a vicious decision that ultimately led to his own death. Tybalt was looking for a fight with Romeo, when Romeo did not want to fight, Mercutio stepped in to help fight Tybalt. After Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo wants revenge. Romeo is frustrated and desperate and tells Mercutio, “Now Tybalt, take the ‘villain’ back again, that late thou gavest me: for Mercutio’s soul.” (3.1.122-123) Tybalt’s cruel decision to kill Mercutio was the thing that led to Romeo to kill Tybalt. The Friar helped Juliet deceive her family by giving her a potion to make her seem dead even though she'll only be sleeping. After Juliet is put the grave, Romeo would save Juliet and run off to Verona together. The Friar gives Juliet the vial saying, “Take this vial, being then in bed, And this distilling liquor drink thou off” (4.1.93-94) The Friar helping Juliet deceive her family led to Paris’s death, without it he would not be at the grave. It led to Romeo’s death, Romeo thought Juliet was dead. The Friar going against his duties may or may not have led to his
