Briar William Kentzel Ellie and his father have a different relationship than most during the Holocaust. Elie and his father try to stick together during their time in the camps. Meanwhile, many young boysthe other sons are trying to get away from their fathers as to lift the burden they create. During this time, the fathers are trying to stay with their kids and provide for them during the rough time. Elie tries to stay with his father even when he gets sick, but he sometimes wonders if he should just leave him behind.
Being the last sentence of the book, and out of all the passages I highlighted this one stood out to me and described Wiesel’s experience in just a few simple sentence. He looked at himself for the first time in many years, and did not recognize himself he saw a different person. This showed me that the concentration camps changed him he was a different person inside and out. The events that occurred to him had scared him so much that the man he saw in the mirror wasn’t him, but one who had been drained of life that looked lifeless from the events occurred in the concentration camps. He was weak and this whole passage embodies his weakness and the whole point of the concentration camps.
Ever since humans came to be, they have done many things to ensure their survival. It’s the reason why we humans have evolved as much as we have. Humans have invented devices, accomplished many challenges, and have even relied on nothing but willpower to survive. When somebody survives a tragic event they are left with some terrifying memories that haunt them forever, but a few survivors are courageous enough to share their experience. Obviously, one of the shared experiences is the book called Night by Elie Wiesel.
The small town of Sighet, also known as Sighetu Marmatiei, is located today in Transylvania, Romania. Through the years, Sighet has had strong ties to the Jewish religion, just as it does today. The town has been part of both Romania and Hungary at times, and has seen a decreasing number of residents since 1944. During the 1940s, anti-Jewish sentiment was at its peak, with Adolf Hitler being the face of the anti-Jewish movement. By 1944, World War I had started, and more than 14,000 Jews resided in Sighet, but by the end of May of the same year, none remained, and Sighet was comparable to a ghost town.
Wiesel used foreshadowing in the story of Mrs. Schachter by having her yelling about a fire. Of course, no one knew of what she was talking about, so they quieted her. She continues to yell later as well and so the young men gagged her. When they arrived at Auschwitz Mrs. Schachter was screaming about the flames and the fire. When the train stopped, everyone jumped out avoiding the strike of a stick, they thenk smelled the stench of burning flesh from the fire.

Throughout the book, Elie Weisel experiences many horrors which leave him in this state of disgrace. Many experiences such as being uprooted from his home, witnessing countless people die, and seeing his dear father wither and deteriorate strip him of his humanity and faith in God, leaving him a shell of his former self.
Elie Wiesel’s memoir Night is about the character, Eliezer’s, experience at Auschwitz during the Holocaust. The cruelty Eliezer and other characters face throughout the literary work is the foundation of several themes. One of the major themes is the struggle to maintain one’s faith. This theme can be better understood by examining how cruelty functions in the memoir and what Eliezer learns about himself while facing these cruelties.
Night Literary Analysis Many people have written about their horrific experiences during the Holocaust, as there are many different stories to be told. But when Elie Wiesel wrote Night, he did not hold back on many details. He was very vivid with his grave memories. In Night, Elie Wiesel uses metaphors, repetition, and symbolism to indicate the unmeasurable amount of unnecessary pain, suffering, fear, and horror that had taken place. He wanted to exhibit that during this time, he was witness to many unspeakable crimes and horrors.
Life is full of good and bad experiences, but you don’t always have control of what happens. That can be scary sometimes and it depends on how you handle it as to whether you get out of that situation. In the memoir Night written by Elie Wiesel, Eli, a teenager had been taken away from his home and taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Night is the scary record of Elie Wiesel’s memories of the death of his own family and the death of his own innocence as he tries to fight his way out of the concentration camp. Over the course of the book, Eli changes from a believer in God living in bearable conditions to someone who has become profane because of the situation he’s been put in.
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope. " Hope and an optimistic attitude are characteristics of a rational and humane mindset. Documenting how these ideals change throughout a period of time in writing can be done through various means of rhetoric including figurative language. In Elie Wiesel 's personal memoir Night, he incorporates similes and metaphors to effectively convey how the victims ' humanity deteriorated throughout the course of the Holocaust. Wiesel 's figurative language at the beginning of the novel conveys how the Jewish people followed commendable politesse and practiced reasonable behavior early on in the Holocaust.
Through character’s hope and perseverance in his memoir Night, Elie Wiesel conveys the theme that the love one holds for another is what fuels their will survive under strain. The Jews displacement by the Nazi’s downgraded them from their homes to filthy, plague-ridden, sewer like boxes of concrete that was Auschwitz. As a result of this many forgot their purpose to be alive. Wiesel shows that the need to survive those conditions was only supported by a sense of duty to one’s family to be there. When Stein says “Were it not for them, I would give up,”(45) he shows that their survival is the only thing keeping him upright.

In this memoir, Elie Wiesel uses imagery in order to develop the presence of animal-like behavior on people when they are being dehumanized. At this point of the story, Elie and the other prisoners are in a wagon traveling to a different concentration camp, and they are trying to survive in inhuman conditions. To begin, Wiesel describes, “We were given bread… We threw ourselves on it… Someone had the idea of quenching his thirst by eating snow.”
Wiesel often uses complex similes to advance the plot of his memoir and add a meaningful perspective to the idea of what it means to be human in a psychological and emotional sense. For example, towards the beginning of the memoir, in the cattle car on the way to Auschwitz, Wiesel utilizes figurative language to describe the condition of the Jewish prisoners as being infected with madness: “Our very skin was aching. It was as though madness had infected all of us. We gave up.
The road to a relationship with God is not straight, it is ever changing with challenges and curves and ups and downs. This is a main theme in the memoir Night, by Elie Wiesel, where Elie has a struggling relationship with God. He thinks that God has abandoned him and his dad so he does not feel the need to continue his relationship with God. Elie was excited about his faith but the holocaust makes him feel angry and confused with God. Elie 's faith excites him from a young age and he wants to learn more about God.
