In the family setting especially, loyalty stands as a fundamental element of healthy relationships. Parents show their loyalty by making difficult decisions based on their convictions about the best path for their children. Trust grows from security in steadfast loyalty, resulting in obedience from children, even when the parents’ motives are not understood. In the Jewish culture, being part of and raising a family constitutes a sacred calling, and loyalty within the family is not only praised but expected.
