The Crucible by Arthur Miller was written during the cold war. He explored many themes. One of these themes was Hatred. Hatred is defined as intense dislike. Hatred is a major theme in this story because it affected the story by showing strong feelings of one character to another. Hatred is a major theme in The Crucible. On page 30, “ I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and i will bring a pointy reckoning, that will shudder you.” (Miller,20) This shows hatred because of the things she is saying she is going to do to Betty if she tells.
