Hope is an important part of daily life for many people. Though in the holocaust many people were in terrible situations, some still managed to have hope. In Elie Wiesel’s novel, Night, Elie tells his tale of the time he spent in a large number of concentration camps and his novel contains many instances of hope. Hope is the most prominent theme amongst the other themes included in this novel. The theme of hope is used frequently throughout the book. In the novel, Elie writes: “Splendid news from the Russian Front. There could no longer be any doubt; Germany would be defeated.”, (Wiesel, 8). Elie tells us about the Jewish people of Sighet and their hopeful outlook before they were deported. The Russians were beginning to defeat Germany, starting to take ahold of the war. American forces had arrived at Buchenwald, the concentration camp Elie was staying at. “Around noon, everything was calm again. The SS had fled, and the resistance had taken charge of the camp. At six o’clock that afternoon, the first American tank stood at the gates of Buchenwald.”, (Wiesel, 115). The atmosphere in the concentration camp had been grim. One SS officer had announced that the camp would be liquidated and all Jews were to be evacuated due to the war front approaching closer each day. One day before the last liquidation, an armed resistance appeared out of nowhere and fought the SS. After the battle was over, an American tank reached the gates. The American tank arriving most definitely gave the prisoners hope. The arrival of American forces at Buchenwald means that, the Jewish people will not only be liberated, but also properly fed and taken care of. Because of the armed forces coming to set the Jewish prisoners free, Elie will be able to go back to his life. At the end of the book, hope is shown for the final
