While both the works “Incident In a Rose Garden” by Donald Justice and Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston treat the subject of the insignificance of success when facing inhuman forces, Justice is able to emphasize the theme by showing the non importance of status in the world, while Hurston highlights how the inhuman forces ultimately has complete control over everyones lives. The reason the couple didn't feel threatened by the sea was because of the white influence, “The folks let the people do the thinking. If the castles thought themselves secure, the cabins needn't worry”(158). The hurricane then breaks into town and begins to flood their home, they decide they have to try to run from the force but find it too difficult and the hurricane results in hundreds dying, including white people. When the hurricane came in the night Janie had realized it was God with the world in his hands through the text, “The time was past for asking the white folks what to look for through that door. Six eyes were questioning god”(Hurston 159). This shows that whatever was coming towards them was more than a normal hurricane and that it was actually the nature of God that they could not prevent even with the rich white people's help. Hurston also shows the symbolism of the inhuman forces of the hurricane by stating, “They seemed to be staring at the dark, but their eyes were watching God”(160). The people can try to live for themselves and try to support themselves but
