One of the most important themes, in fact the major theme of the book “is an attempt to trace back the defects of society to the defects of human nature”. The moral is that the shape of society must depend on the ethical nature of individuals and not on any political system. William Golding uses Ralph and Jack as the leaders of the boys to represent different leadership styles, in order to accomplish his massage.throughout the novel he uses symbolism that gives a reader better comprehension of his ideas and concepts. A good leader does not ignore other people instead he care for them. The saying which say “power corrupts” is true because when Ralph killed a pig for the very first time his personality changes .he feels superior than others. Ralph showed good qualities of leadership as he selected Jack to lead the choir, “Jack’s in charge of the choir,” (William Golding, Lord of the flies, 1954, p. 30). Ralph’s leadership was productive, as he was concerned about the boys’ safety, and instead of letting them play around he came with an idea of building huts. He thought of building shelters to protect them and a signal fire for their rescue. Ralph stood up for civilized society, after Simon’s death during the ritual dance at the feast, Ralph experienced guilt as an outcome of his being a part of Simon’s death was unbearable. When Piggy’s glasses where stolen, Ralph demanded that Jack return Piggy’s glasses. Ralph always stood up for Piggy because he believed in Ubuntu and civilized
