Although loneliness may not be a problem for some people, others who are lonely and struggling could be misunderstood and wrongly assumed. This is shown a lot in the book as some characters are facing discrimination or disclusion. A few of the characters facing these problems make it clear they really do need someone to be there for them by lashing out and signs of desperation, but are still not listened to. Curleys wife tells Lennies how she gets lonely because the only person she can actually talk to is Curley, and he gets mad if she talks to anyone else. Curleys wife tells Lennie about her childhood, how she could have been a movie star, and the reason she married Curley.
