How does the theme of loyalty contribute to most of the conflicts in Much Ado About Nothing? In Much Ado About Nothing, the plot revolves mainly around Claudio and Hero. A whole situation occurs because Don John and Borachio plan to ruin Claudio’s and Hero’s wedding. Don John comes up with this idea because he doesn’t favor Claudio since Claudio got all the glory and everything. So this mainly happens because Don John is jealous. Aside from this, Beatrice and Benedick are also in this story. At the beginning of the story, these two characters have lots of hatred for each other because they are exes. Claudio and Hero end up having conflict due to the fact that Don John made Claudio think that Hero was sleeping with Borachio but in reality, Hero never did that. Hero not being loyal to Claudio made him get upset and led to him slandering Hero in front of everyone before they get married. In Much Ado About Nothing by Shakespeare, it says, “ Take your daughter back again. Don't give this rotten orange to your friend…[To the others] Wouldn't you swear, all of you who see her now, that she's a virgin, based on her exterior? But she is no virgin.” (lines 31-36). This quotation demonstrates fidelity because Beatrice tells Benedick to kill Claudio, but Benedick fundamentally says that he’ll do anything for Beatrice but that.
