There are two stories called Michelle Kwan: Heart of a Champion and Mae Jemison: Space Scientist. Michelle Kwan is about a young skater fighting her way to the top. She always faces some tough challenges and heartbreaking decisions. Mae Jemison By: Gail Sakurai is about a African- American girl who has to fight for her rights. She also becomes the First African- American women in space. These two stories have some similarities and some differences. Some similarities are they share the same theme of perseverance and Michelle and Mae in my mind are both excellent role models. Some differences are the genre and the time period these ladies lived in.

Mae jemison shows perseverance because in the book it states " Mae's dream did not come true overnight. It happened after many long years of hard work, training and preparation." That shows perseverance because even after so much hard work and failing many times, she still believed in herself. Another line is " Other adults were not as encouraging as Mae's parents. When Mae told her kindergarten teacher she wanted to be a scientist the teacher replied with, " Don't you mean a nurse?" You see, back then not many african american people were scientists.
