The book Refugee, by Alan Gratz, is A book to read- not just any book but one that will make you think. Throughout this book we meet 3 kids, Isabel, Mahmoud and Josef. All three of these kids have to leave their homes because of situations that have put them and their families lives in grave danger. These characters journey to safety and leave things and people behind on the way. All of these characters have had to leave their homes with hopes of finding somewhere safer. Ruthie later on is able to help Mahmoud and his family with their situation. This scene shows the theme because Josef made a sacrifice so that his sister Ruthie would have the opportunity to help other people throughout the world. This is important because this is a vital point in the story. If Josef hadn’t made a sacrifice then his sister would never be able to help other people. Josef had to make this sacrifice because he was the man of the family and he cared so much about his little sister that he wanted her to have the opportunity to live and do something with her life.
