In the house on mango street, the author Sandra Cisneros writes about the theme of Society and class in the vignettes Cathy, Queen of cats and Gil’s furniture, bought and sold. The main Characters name is Esperanza and she is 13 years old, she's mexican-american and she lives in chicago. The theme Society and Class is basically someone's socioeconomic status. In the book it has a lot of that and many people judge others because of their socioeconomic status.

In the House on Mango street the author Sandra Cisneros writes about the theme of society and class in the vignette Cathy, Queen of Cats.This vignette shows a lot of Society and class, this lady named Cathy lives in this neighborhood and when someone that is not as wealthy as she is moves in, she moves down the street so she's farther away, but if someone that looks wealthy moves in she will stay in her home. In the vignette it says “That's when we move away. Got to. Then as if she forgot i just moved in, she says the neighborhood is getting bad.” (Cisneros, 13). This Vignette shows a lot of them society and class because the guy Gil owns this store and he only turns the lights on for certain people. If someone walks by and doesn't look very wealthy he will keep the lights off, but if someone that looks wealthy walks by he will turn the lights on so they will see everything he has and maybe buy something. In the vignette it says “ We bought a used refrigerator from him once.” (Cisneros, 19). This is showing you the type of society she lives
