If you upset or disrupt it, it can kill you. “The Mechanical Hound slept but did not sleep, lived but did not live in its gently humming, gently vibrating, softly illuminated the back in a dark corner of the firehouse.” (Bradbury 21). Hounds help the firemen by hunting people down who own books illegally. Also, Hounds are made so advanced that they can smell someone from afar, there is no way of hiding. This is a warning to society because if something like a Hound is made, secrets could not be kept. This is a warning to society nowadays on how distractions can be used for others to hide something. In addition, the government wants a happy society. Being happy is the only emotion that the government wants, however the only way to do this is by creating distractions. In fact, the government makes life more fun by having seashells, fast cars, and TV. But the government has to take away sad and depressing things, like books and funerals, to do so. “Burn the book. Serenity, Montag. Peace, Montag. Take your fight outside. Better yet, into the incinerator. Funerals are unhappy and pagan? Eliminate them, too.” (Bradbury 57). Distractions make happiness possible. Also, in the book citizens are never heartbroken and never care when sad
