Frederick Douglass, An American Slave” shows everyone the actual life of someone that was a slave when it was in its prime. Both of the stories share common themes, but both of them have different meanings behind them. The tone that is shared throughout both of the stories changes drastically as the story progresses. The common theme that stands out the most is redemption between the two.

“Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave” is all about
Frederick Douglass’s life experiences with being in slavery for twenty years. Shortly after he became free he wanted to make a difference for all slaves. He wrote several autobiographies standing up for abolition. The narrative talks about a bunch of newspaper articles including one he published called “The North Star.” This was a newspaper that only focused on abolition and slavery. Douglass redeemed himself by making himself known to everyone even president Lincoln, that he was willing to write about his time in slavery to let everyone know what kind of life he had to go through.
