Todd strasser uses tone consistently throughout the story but a couple of times s=todd strasser uses iit to show the theme. The first time he uses it to show the theme is when ;aurie ,enemy. One scene where todd strasser uses description is where david and laurie are having an argument about the wave and then david pushes laurie over. The author says it seemed as if laurie was unable to talk with the sobs in her throat after David pushed her over. Laurie was surprised by this because the wave completely changed david, but before the wave happened david would never of have pushed her over.
