Jack has committed several crimes, including assault and voluntary murder. The book is about a young boy named August, who looks unique, finds out that he’s going to school for the first time, he finds out at his best friend’s, Christopher's house, a person at his house gives a test, which Auggie (August) thinks that the test is an IQ test, and it really is a test to see if Auggie can get into a school. His mother believes that he should go to school, even though his father, and Auggie doesn’t want to go. This action causes the boys to go into a savage frenzy , screaming, yelling, and mass chaos, all because Jack told them to do their dance. To start, when the boys first arrive on the island after the crash, Jack had a knife that he carried around with him. He constantly hits it into nearby objects to instill fear in the other boys. For example, during a meeting the boys are all talking about what their plan should be while they are on the island. Jack suddenly stands up. On page 33, the narrator says, “Jack slammed his knife into a trunk and looked around challengingly.”

August has had this defect since we was born and he had been home-schooled up until he was in the fifth grade. August had difficulty making friends because of this reason. He knew that he did not look normal and that people were always starring at him.
Jack’s influence among the boys has been gradually growing, and calling his own meeting grants him with more immediate power than he has ever had before. Jack instantly abuses this power by unjustly criticizing Ralph and challenging his authority, demonstrating that no one on the island can hold a position of power without quickly abusing it. Shortly after, Jack forms his own band of hunters, giving him even more power to toy around with, and it doesn’t take long for him to begin to abuse it. For what appears to be no reason, Jack decides that he’s “Going to beat Wilfred…. He got angry and made [the other boys] tie Wilfred up.”
Meanwhile, Auggie has a face deformity. In the book, it describes his face as, “...mushed up…”. He looks different than all the other children, so nobody will hang out with him. As Auggie walked in the school, people were walking away and avoiding being near him.
This led to people at his school seeing him differently,like he was any other person, not the kid with the defect. People who wouldn't even touch him were giving him fist bumps in the hallway. Despite August’s severe deformity he experiences unconditional love from his family and eventually his family of friends. This shows how his family’s love him for who he is not how he looks. They can go deeper, and find his beautiful personality and not be shallow enough to over-rule him just because he appearance does not perform to modern day definitions. Their love for August (or Auggie as he is often referred to) is so strong and so pure it is unlimited and free.
He is afraid that his deformity will keep him from making friends. This was true until one by one through single acts of kindness, students like Summer, Charlotte, Jack and others see past Auggie’s facial deformity, and make friends with him. By the end of the school year Auggie is a well-liked member of his class. Auggie has conquered his fears and other students has conquered their fears of his deformity.
