Did you know that American Indians alone comprise 39,669 of North Dakota’s population, a little over five percent of north dakota population. In the novel saga and sioux, the author discusses the themes and the conflicts. The conflict was Man vs Nature and we have reasons to back that up. Such as this quote stating that “if they are hungry, let them eat grass.” This quote is a example of Man vs Nature, because it is showin that they are in lack of resources. Also another quote showing Man vs Nature is that “Of the 1,300 santes brought there in 1863, fewer than 1,000 survived their first winter.This shows how it is Man vs. Nature, because it explains how cold it was up in the Dakota Territory. The first theme shows how that native americans were treated badly. In the story, Brigadier General Patrick E. Connor announced in July that the Indians North of the platte River “must be hunted like dogs.” There were many times in the book where it locked like the Indians were being targeted by everyone. It said, “When the bluecoats gunfire grew too overwhelming, the Sioux would draw away”, so that shows that even after they tried to quit the bluecoats still fired. Even though they were treated like crap, They still didn’t give up. So, that is where I got the theme, “Don’t give up, fight for your rights.” There were many times that the Indians were just hanging by a string. It also said, “Not a soldier left alive.” It was very hard for the Indians to kill many of the soldiers, because they had rifles instead of bows and arrows.
