Responses Themes are important to learning then lessons that authors are trying to get in the readers mind. That lesson is important because to understand the book you use the theme to know what you’re reading about. Also, the theme is important because the story would not be a story with out one or more themes leading to a lesson. The theme of story 1 is, do not do things that you would think that you would get hurt doing. According to the text, “I had to go through with this deal. I had to prove that I could belong to this group, could be a man.” The theme of story 2 is, having pressure on yourself is like choking on that pressure. According to the text, it states, “In a way I felt I was putting more pressure on myself than I could handle,”
