President Theodore Roosevelt “People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. The leader leads, and the boss drives.” Theodore Roosevelt was probably known as one of the most known presidents in the United States, even throughout his faults, this quote says a lot about his way of thinking. Theodore Roosevelt was known as Teedie or The Great White Chief. Teddy was born in New York City on October 27,1858. Teedie had various occupations, few of them were being a Governor, a Military Leader, and the 26th U.S. president. As a young kid Teedie didn’t really go out, he was homeschooled due to his asthma and his illnesses. Theodore started getting recognition for his political independence and his social conscience. Lamentably a tragedy happened in 1884, his mother and wife passed away the same day. Alice had recently given birth to a healthy baby girl on, February 12, 1884 at 8:30pm. Theodore was positive that his first daughter was going to be born on Valentines day so he went to Albany to do some business. Theodore was informed through a telegram sent and he arranged to leave quickly as possible. On his way back he had received another Telegram informing him that Alice was ill. He got back around midnight and he only got to hold Alice for only 2 hours until he was informed that his mother now was in poor conditions too. He had to leave his wife for a bit and his mother passed away on February 14,1884 due to a Tyhoid Fever three hours past midnight . After the poor news of his mother passing away, that afternoon his wife was announced dead due to kidney failures, the pregnancy is what caused her to start her Kidney Failures. The two most important women in Theodore’s life were buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NewYork, side by side. Theodore wanted to take action to the corrupting influences of contemporary society by rooting them out or keeping them from expanding in the first place. The “spoils system” were responsible for rewarding Theodore, for having his own campaign for the republican party. Benjamin Harrison won presidency, in 1888, he liked the support Theodore gave during the campaign, and to give thanks in a way he offered him a job as a Civil Service Commissioner. He was extremely exhilarated and within a year he had already moved to Washington. Theodore thought this was a chance to fight against government corruption. His prestige for mortality was significant, Grover Cleveland Harrison’s Democratic successor kept Theodore in office. Theodore felt that he could’t really do much since his position in the Civil Service is no where near the political action. National Events passed by and it reminded Theodore how many adjustments needed to be done. For example, The dark recession of 1893 left families without one penny. This event and many other events got Theodore thinking how susceptible labor was, Theodore could read through the workers pain, and how the workers pain was the product of the industries.
