Theories And Philosophies In The Counseling Field

201 Words1 Pages
This course has been an eye-opener for me, showing how many theories and philosophies abound in the counseling field. After watching the Three Approaches to Psychotherapy training videos with Albert Ellis, Fritz Perlz and Carl Rogers I found myself drawn to Carl Rogers and his Person-centered approach. Mr. Rogers’ theory emphasizes how a person feels about oneself compared to focusing on one’s problems. Carl Rogers believes that, “people are unique and multidimensional beings, and psychosocial and spiritual dimensions are as important as physical health for their holistic well-being” (Rogers, 1980; Love & Pinkowitz, 2013). The Person-centered therapy approach allows the counselor to empathize and listen to what the client is really saying.
