Irony is the expression of someone’s meaning by the use of language that commonly that conveys the opposite. The irony in this short story is to appreciate the theme that humans most advance technological and innovated inventions are taking over nature and humanity. In the story it gives the readers a self-sustainable house that is able to nourish the entire thing someone can do on their own. The technological intelligent house can announce the day, the weather, and if they have any appointments that day. The house can also cook meals, clean, arrange a party, start the shower, making the beds, and even chant poetry. The house is acting as if it was a human. Stated by Tsarouchi, Michalos, Makris, Athanasatos, Dimiulas, and Chryssolouris (2017) robots were able to complete the same task as the humans (p. 5). However, the house goes crazy when a tree crashes into a window, which causing a fire to start. The house immediately beings to shout “fire,” and starts to help put out the fire with “water pumps [shooting] water from the ceilings,” (Bradbury 1950 pg. 72). Amusingly, the technological house was defenseless to the natural disaster fire. This irony boosts of the analysis of the theme, that the advance technology is overpowering human nature. Human conception of technology always going to be there changes once natural disasters comes into play. Ironically, human nature nonchalantly sets back when human fight each other with computers. Consequently, nature will continue to sustain life and reconstruct while humans are taken of the world. In the short story, “There Will Be Soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury, the use of the literary device irony helps support that the magnitude of advance technology is taking over the true meaning of the word
