Shattered is a book written by Debra Puglisi Sharp that tells her scaring story. She was kidnaped, raped and her husband was murdered during the crime. The book focuses on how these events affect her life and that of those close to her, including dragging her family through the trial process. In April 1998, Debra is raped and kidnapped from her home by a stranger. She was then taken to the kidnapper’s home where she was assaulted multiple times and dehumanized, but fortunately, she escaped after five continuous days.

The use of counter-arguments is a great tool to have, due to the fact that it has the ability to boost your credibility with the audience. The piece of writing which I felt was unsuccessful for me was the Rhetorical Analysis of an article relating to a topic from our course book The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander. This piece of writing was difficult for me to organize my ideas around. The article that I decided to use for my rhetorical analysis highlighted mass incarceration among African American and the effect of civil liberties being are taken away from these individuals. I had a lot of repetition because many of the examples I used demonstrated more than one type of appeal. I found myself repeating what the purpose of the example was and how it demonstrated proper use of ethos, pathos, and logos.
It is essential to captures the reader 's interest and this will be done by finding how to well write a thesis sentence that will want the readers to keep reading and find out more about the thesis. As our final assignment for cornerstone we were tasked with revising our rhetorical analysis. I received a B, 81%, and by the end of my revisions have “A” quality work. During recent assignments and papers for other classes I realized the thesis was one of the first few sentences in the paper. As I was reading my paper I noticed that the purpose of the author writing this wasn 't until almost halfway into the first paragraph.

In “Let them die” essay, Kenan Malik assert that endangered languages in the world should be left to dead. In other word, the minority languages should not be preserved, because it is not related to the achievement of “cultural diversity” (Malik, 3). Indeed, he expresses, dying languages should be removed in order to reach the “dynamic and responsive” (Malik, 6) culture.
