One of the things most students hate about college life is a need to write a focused, comprehensible, convincing, grammatically sound yet logically significant, almost perfect academic paper. A paper with too much requirements in which most of the students stumble upon. Also, one of the reasons behind some students’ poor grades. However, writing an academic paper is not as hard as it seems if done in a proper way, with some patience and little caffeine. There are just five stages to write an academic paper: initial stage, prewriting stage, drafting stage, revision stage and editing stage. In this stage they have to get all the elements together of a complete essay: the thesis sentence, topic sentence, introductory paragraph, body paragraph, concluding paragraph and their structures. Thesis statement is the main point of the essay that identifies your claim (Bullock, Brody and Weinberg 10). Thesis statements should be clear, specific and should have a stand. They are generally kept at the end of the introduction of the essay. There is also something called “Topic sentences” which people often confuse with the thesis statement. Topic sentence, unlike thesis statement, tells us about the main idea of the paragraph, not the entire essay (Wells). Another part in the drafting stage is the introductory paragraph which provides a slight indication about the essay. Generally, the writer begins with the generalization of the topic and then comes to the specifics. This is why, thesis statements are introduced at the end of introduction – to get down to the specifics. Different attention gainers like startling facts, statistics, questions, quotes, anecdote, and so on are used in introduction to provide the hook for the readers (Bullock, Brody and Weinberg …show more content…

They are usually a discrete number of paragraphs kept in logical order that help discover the argument and convince the readers into the claim. In order for the body paragraph to be convincing, the writer has to provide strong evidences in favor of their argument. They can use many forms of facts and figures from creditable sources like library or researched articles (Petracca and Sorapure 32). The final part of the drafting is the concluding paragraph in which the writer state a resolving end to the argument. Here, they could restate back to the main points, move to a more subjective reflection, end with a startling question, propose an action, and so on (Bullock, Brody and Weinberg 29). After the drafting stage, comes the revision stage in which the writer clarify ideas, rearrange texts and add or remove ideas in order to enhance the argument(Wells et al.). Either the writers themselves or an audience help them with the revision.
