In her novel, The outsiders S.E. Hinton shares the theme that, you should not judge people having higher social status or more money because you will never know what there life is like. The outsiders deals with struggles of judging people by appearance. In the beginning of the book the characters are separated into two groups of people the Greasers and the Socs. The Socs are rich and blame the Greasers for trouble the socs get into. The Greasers are not understood and they don't fit in and have horrible fights with the Socs. Randy explained that all Bob wanted was for someone to tell him what to do and give him a sense of direction. “ He wanted someone to lay down the law and set limits but they never did .” After hearing what Randy had to say, Ponyboy’s perspective on the Socs began to change as he realizes that maybe the Socs are not that terrible. Ponyboy real;izes Socs are human to. “ Socs were just guys after all. Things are rough all over but it was better that way. The way you could tell the other guys were human too.” Ponyboy changes his thoughts about other people like the socs and begins to understand them and some of their problems. Johnny's death was a wake up call for Ponyboy especially after Dally telling Ponyboy to get tough. “ Someone should tell their side of the story of the story and maybe people would not be so quick to judge people by the amount of hair gel they had on. “ After reading Johnny's farewell letter to Pony, he comes to realize that how a person looks is not how you should judge a person. Pony also hopes Socs and Greasers would not be so quick to judge people by their appearances and the amount of money they
