In the book “Things Fall Apart” the writer talks about the characters are very consistent on how they act towards each other. The book has lots of set ideas that have world affect on how doing what happens in the book affect you. Like when you are reading this book, looking at, and examining the main character Okonkwo is his relationship with his dad and his sons showing how he is a bad father. To begin, Okonkwo did not want to be anything like his father because his father was a failure. His dad sat around and told stories, begged for money, and didnt teach his kids anything. This is why okonkwo did not want to be like his father and so he ended up doing basically the opposite of his dad did. “was not afraid of war. He was a man of action, a man of war. Unlike his father he could stand the look of blood. In Umuofia’s latest war he was the first to bring home a human head.” ( 2.4).this talks about how his dad was a coward unlike him. “He (unoka) was poor, lazy, and neglectful of his wife, and he did not plan for the future. During his life, he never took a title and, therefore, never gained status or respect from the villagers. Instead, they called him a loafer, and he was the laughingstock of the community.” this part of the book was saying how much of a failure unoka was. …show more content…

He lives with Okonkwo’s family for three years before the elders order him to be killed. In those three years, he grows very close to Okonkwo's family, especially Nwoye. Okonkwo even prefers him to his true son Nwoye, Since Ikemefuna was to be a hard-working young man. “Ikemefuna misses his family and ran away. He wouldn't eat until okonkwo threatens to beat him”. This part of the book shows that okonkwo is being a bad father and threatening his own son to eat. Okonkwo then later in chapter 7 kills his son Ikemefuna.
