These three reasons are why animals were too scared to overthrow him and to be free from his rule. One example of how Napoleon stays in charge is Animalism. Animalism was meant to be set in place keeping any animal from having more power than the others. Napoleon uses this to his advantage by having a basic first set of commandments which is “reduced to… ‘Four legs good, two legs bad.’
Whenever the other animals start to doubt Napoleon, Boxer reassures them that “If comrade Napoleon says it, it must be right” (Orwell 82). Boxer and the other animals on the farm get mistreated in many ways such as, Napoleon takes away their food rations while the pigs and dogs get a large amounts of food and better living conditions. If Boxer wasn't on the farm the book would be different in many ways because the animals would have probably turned against Napoleon by now. This quote relates to Animal Farm because there came time after the Rebellion where the animals were free and ruled by just animals, but slowly everything changed. Napoleon evolved to be the leader of Animal Farm and gained a lot of power. This was the kind of power that was abused. He took advantage of the animals on the farm and destroyed their freedom.
The next ruler of Animal Farm is Napoleon, one of the pigs on the farm. Once he gains control of the farm, he does whatever it takes to strengthen his power. He trains a group of dogs to be his guards, frighten the other animals, and kill for him. He later becomes paranoid and forces the animals to confess to crimes they did not commit, and the, “dogs promptly tore their throats out” (93) to show his power and give an example of what happens when there are crimes committed. When the farm first became Animal Farm, there were a set of commandments set up that all animals need to follow, except for Napoleon.
One reason why animal farm failed is that not all animals were equal because they had different abilities and were treated differently. Another reason is that not all animals weren't lazy thinkers they were forced to be in charge and they couldn't learn . A third reason is that Napoleon didn't think of others, he was e thinking of himself and the animals were doing all what napoleon told to do. Ignorance is dangerous. Lack of knowledge can cause someone to be manipulated and used. Knowledge brings choice and freedom which is something that the animals in “Animal Farm” did not have. The story “Animal Farm” is a significant story because it shows that not having knowledge about certain situations can be a bad thing. The theme of the story is knowledge is power.
Only puppies and pigs can live in the house, sleep in the bed, eat apples and cookies and have all of the best things. As the history is developing, Napoleon is getting more and more like a dicator. He slowly begin to being superior but did not act like a dictator. Moreover, he broke some rules, he’s in contact with humans, and he had hours of works, and he killed aniamsl, and change the only commandment for “4 legs good, 2 legs better”. He also think that “Every animals are equal, but some are more equal then others.”
The greed of power will always blind the leader’s judgment. Napoleon was not excluded in this matter as he often takes advantages knowing that the animals cannot read or write. Although there are many examples to support this fact, but one stands out the most, Boxer’s ending. As can be seen throughout the story, Boxer is the one who worked hard for that farm’s welfare from the beginning to the end. His never-failing cry of ‘I will work harder’ often inspired the rest of animals to work hard despite facing failures such as destruction of the windmill for the second time.
He even says he’ll do more to improve the farm, and prevent a situation like this from happening again. With Boxer’s growing popularity, the reader finds that the supreme leader, Napoleon, feels threatened by Boxer. The animals obviously treat Napoleon like a king, because the animals
Furthermore, Napoleon gives the other animals the impression he was the sole leader of the rebellion on Animal farm and makes Snowball -a leader who wanted what was best for the animals- seem like an enemy who was in cahoots with Farmer Jones since long before the animals took over the farm. Napoleon and Squealer (another “fat cat” pig.) always put the blame on Snowball whenever something went wrong in the farm to avoid having the blame fall on them. Napoleon is an exemplary example of just how selfish and hypocritical people can be in furthering their own aims because he continued to subtly but purposely change the seven rules put in place as the pillars of animalism. For example, Napoleon and the other pigs move into Farmer Jones’s house and sleep in his bed after commanding “No animal shall sleep in a bed”, so he changes the commandment to read “no animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets”.
Since the animals were like blindfolded, no one made the connection between Boxer's being taken away and the pigs suddenly having more money. The contrast between what the animals believe, what the narrator actually is talking about, and what the reader knows to be the truth, fills one with an anger. (“Animal Farm: Animals Irony”) Animal Farm satirises the breakdown of political ideology and the misuse of power. The major players are animals but their failings are all recognisably human. They begin with an idealistic attempt to form a new society, liberated from the tyranny of humans and founded on the principle of equality and freedom for everyone, but it all goes wrong as the pigs take over.
Animal Farm illustrates how leaders become corrupt when they abuse their power, treat the population differently based on their status, and the leaders manipulate and oppress the working class. Over the course of the book, Napoleon and the pigs abused their power. After an announcement about trading with the humans for supplies, Squealer
Napoleon mislead and misinformed the animals, under his power. The animals had their own opinions and beliefs but weren’t educated enough to propose them. The farm came to know that “some animals are more equal than others”(134), their last state was as bad as their first. Napoleon formed an alliance with the human enemy to establish his personal dictatorship, the ruling of the pigs became more and more indistinguishable from their human neighbors. “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to tell which was which” (141) Orwell’s message again, is that history can repeat itself, we must be careful and prevent that from happening, or we could end up in same situation as before, like the animals
In Animal Farm, two themes were shown throughout the book. One theme was “Not everyone is equal; some people believe that they are more superior than others.” another theme was “People deserve to have their own thoughts and ideas. These were shown when Napoleon used his powers for hurt hurt not for the better of the farm. He used his powers to create a farm that is not equal for everyone.
