“Thinking like a freak” is the way of thinking which is illogical, foolish and the most risky. According to Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner,”thinking like a freak” is very easy, but most people don’t choose it to solve their problems. There are three reasons why people usually hold the idea off from“thinking like a freak”, include: protecting own reputation, making predictions, and getting feedbacks. The first reason why people usually hold the idea off from “thinking like a freak” is protecting their own reputation. Most of people’s reputations are very high and “thinking like a freak” breaks the rule of each people. They can’t do fool things because they’re scared to fail and people around them will laugh at them, no one wants that situation happen. For example in the book, elder wine connoisseurs stated that expensive wines are better than cheap wines. The truth was when they had a blind tasting, the result was opposite to what they used to state. The fact is that some cheap wines can taste as good as expensive wine. People like to make a prediction when they are asked to answer questions that they don’t know. Furthermore, encouraging readers to think like a freak, authors want readers to say “I don’t know” instead of making prediction. It can’t be a shame when people say “I don’t know” because it’ll be a motivation for them to say “I know”.
