Speak The book I am responding to is called Speak written by Laurie Halse Anderson. This book is about a teenage girl named Melinda Sordino, who begins her high school year with a big secret. Over the summer she and her friends went to a party where Melinda was raped, she called the police, causing her friends and everyone at the party to reject her. Later Melinda befriends a girl named Heather, a new student at her school.
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is a book about a girl named Melinda Sordino. In the beginning of this book the audience meets Melinda as she is the main character and she describes her first day of high school starting with an assembly. Throughout the book you read about her life but she goes back to the past recalling of something that happened at the end of the summer; in a couple of instances she comes across someone that she refers to as “IT”. When reading you don't know who this “IT” is but it is developed over the story by her having flashbacks to that night or dropping a hint of what happened. School, when some hear the word, they moan or grunt in frustration, others may even find to enjoy it. However, Kate Peters found herself falling into despair when she found herself enrolled at Whittaker Magnet School. The mysterious school in the basement of a library, said to have the best test scores in more than one country. Also thought to be haunted due to the many deaths in the building, perhaps haunted by demons? Story Time by, Edward Bloor has many themes, characters, conflicts, all of those components to create a good book.
I read Paper Towns by John Green. The novel carries 305 pages and stars Quentin Jacobsen a teenage high school senior and the supposed girl of his dreams Margo Roth Spiegelman. The novel takes place in Orlando Florida. I chose this book because it is widely known and has been suggested to me frequently by friends and family. Also, I have seen many people at school read the book.
In the short story "Kath and Mouse" by Janet McNaughton, the character Kath is most interesting because she is controlling and entitled, yet she is also hard working and careful. Firstly, Kath is directly described as a hardworking person by the author in the short story. This is demonstrated by the following quote: "She really worked at it, forty-five minutes every day. Not that anyone else knew. If anyone phoned while she was practicing, we were supposed to say she was out," (McNaughton 62).
How does one become a man? Have you ever wondered if you are truly a man? In the novel, “The First Part Last,” the main character, Bobby, wonders if he would ever become a man. Bobby is a sixteen year old teenager who was careless and impregnated another teen named Nia. Bobby decides to raise the baby himself after the mother goes into an irreversible vegetative coma.
Culture Area 1 – Americas Although they are both powerful literary works, the artworks of Flannery O’Connor and James Baldwin contain unique differences. O’Connor’s short story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, dates to 1955 in the U.S., and Baldwin’s artwork Sonny’s Blues was written in 1957 in the U.S. Although they were both written in the same period, both artworks take perspective in different settings. Additionally, they seek different themes; for example, O’Connor explores themes of corruption and selfishness whereas Baldwin explores the theme of identity and brotherhood.

.Abandonment can cause regret in human nature. The regret can cause guilt and make people want to redeem themselves. In the short story, “The Life You Save May Be Your Own” by Flannery O’Connor, the guilt of abandoning someone causes individuals to attempt redemption. O’Connor explores the idea of abandonment and redemption when Lucynell is left at the diner. Mr.Shiftlet had just left Lucynell sleeping at a diner in the middle of nowhere.
In this modern age, society is drifting away from God and toward materialism, and this drifting has caused for mankind to become corrupt and morally unintelligent, according to Flannery O’Conner, author of “The Life You Save May Be Your Own,” a short story about Lucynell Crater, the owner of a desolate, rundown farm and old, dysfunctional car and her bargaining with a stranger, Tom Shiftlet, who is morally corrupt and is attempting to con her, to fix up her farm and to marry her daughter, who is also named Lucynell Crater and is deaf and mute. A Child Called "It" is a creative non-fiction memoir of the American author David James "Dave" Pelzer. The story takes place in Daly City, San Francisco, California between the late 1960s and early 1970s. Pelzer wrote several autobiographical and self-help books and is best known for his 1995 memoir of childhood abuse titled A Child Called "It". His book is written in the author's viewpoint and it is about the severe abuse that he suffered as a child. The book shows the readers the many emotional and physical methods that his mother had abused him when he was at the age of 4 to the age of 12, which was when he was sent into foster care.
All great authors leave you hints when they are writing. Flannery O’Connor does just this in her short story “The Life you Save May be Your Own”. This story is a tale of adversity and letting people in. You can never really trust anyone but yourself. YOu can never really ‘s know someone else’s intentions.
