Thomas Edison has gone down in history as arguably the best inventor of all time, but do you know anything else about him? Some say he invented the light bulb, but did he? To figure this out we will have to have a realistic timeline of his life. Thomas Edison's early years were chaotic. Thomas Edison was born in 1847 in Michigan. Throughout his early years he was plagued by constant sickness. When he was twelve his family moved to port Huron where he attended public school for three months before getting to sick to go to school. To earn money at thirteen he started selling newspapers on a train for profit. With his extra earnings he spent money on science equipment. During the civil war many places needed replacements for the soldiers who were gone. A company promptly hired Edison. Edison moved to Louisville at the age of 19 he worked there for awhile before heading home to check in his family. When Thomas Edison got home he found out his mother was turning mentally ill and his father was without a job or income. To fight this Edison decided to move to Boston, although boat on was not the biggest city it was considered the Silicon Valley of the 1800s. In Boston he invented the electronic voter but government officials rejected the idea, for it would give government officials time to persuade people to change their mind who to vote for, and the possibility of rigging an election. Thomas Edison stated “I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that don't work.” After the heartbreak over the electronic voter Thomas Edison moved to New York to continue inventing. When he moved to New York he invented the universal stock ticker which sold for $40,000 or 700,000 dollars today. After inventing a few more life style changing inventions his reputation was growing and so was his bank account. In the years in Menlo Park “The Wizard at Menlo Park” invented the phonograph. The phonograph was another major step into the future of technology. Many people were in disbelief that anyone could make that, so edison sought out to to a New York newspaper service. Edison starts to play a noise but Edison doesn’t know if it’s working due to hearing loss. The writers were in shock! People kept gathering around to listen to this mysterious machine.
