Philosophers and politicians all over the world debate their ideas everyday, but their ideas are mostly born and cultivated from other work they have read in the past. Most of those fine ideas came from the 17th, 18th and 19th century; and they can sometimes be questionable to a certain extent. For example, we have Thomas Hobbes a philosopher who got discovered during the 17th century for his political work The Leviathan, The Leviathan spoke about political insecurity and civil disorder, two things that he experienced at one point in his life. There was also John Locke, who was discovered in the 17th century as well for his work Of Civil Government. Of Civil Government spoke about individualism, freedom, limited government and property. The values that he adds to the table are the closest to our current state of government, he was one of the creators of liberalism and most of his work is apparent in the current liberal platforms that are used in 2016. In what I read of his work I saw some ideas that are reflected in some of the most famous politicians of this day and age i.e. Prime Minister Trudeau and President Obama. One of the ideas that attracts my attention is the one that stresses the intention of the liberal government, it stresses that the government is there for us and to help us “the nation” in our best interest. To me personally, we should work with the government instead of working against it and I saw the same desires in Locke’s work. Without a doubt his ideas were not perfect and had some minor political issues when it came to the ability to overthrow a certain government as soon at it doesn’t serve our best interest. All of them are quite interesting and different in their own ways and similar in others, they all work towards achieving a government that attracts someone’s best interest but it always tends to change according to what specific interests are. Hobbes’s wants a specific leader in an absolutism regime and Marx feels like the social classes are unequal and falls on the side of communism after the industrial revolutions and classifies that freedom and equality are not valuable anymore. But, Locke shows interest in a government that helps the people. A government that acquires the trust of a nation is what appeals to me the most and that is what Locke has shown me to desire through his work. It is why that I am more inclined to adopt his liberal ideas rather than the others. If the government is not there to help us create a peaceful, free and equal nation, in the end what is it there
