The declaration of independence is a letter written by Thomas Jefferson. The declaration of independence says that the United States thirteen colonies were no longer under british rule. Instead they formed a new nation. The declaration of includes these grievances “ he has made judges dependent on his will alone for the tenure of their offices and the amount and paid their salaries” which basically means just government must have separation of powers with checks and balances. The bill of rights adds to what the united states constitution says about personal freedom and rights. One of the amendments says that everyone should have freedom, religion, speech, press, assembly and petition. This fits into today because without this amendment there would be no freedom people would be told what to do. People could not say or believe in what they wanted to. The second amendment says people should have the right to bear arms. Which means people can own things such as guns to protect themselves. This plays into today because without this amendment nobody would be able to protect themselves. And the third amendment says that no one may be forced to house soldiers.
