As well as writing the Declaration of Independence and serving as our president of the U.S., Thomas Jefferson invented and improved many things that we now use that will help us and advance technology we have today. Many of Jefferson’s inventions are hard to determine whether he was the first one to invent it or not because he never patented his work. One of his inventions is a mechanical pedometer. A pedometer is a tracker used to count your steps in order to promote and motivate you to exercise more.
Although both men were convicted as felons and held captive in jail for no apparent reason based on hard facts the men had man differences. First, Jefferson was a poor black man living in the time of slavery, While Steven Avery was a caucasian male living in his hometown of Manitowoc County, Wis. Secondly only one of them had the opportunity for parole and life, that man would be Steven avery who was let out after serving 18 years for a crime that he did not commit. Lastly, the men both were convicted of two different crimes. Jefferson got the death penalty for three accounts of murder and steven avery got 36 years but was later let out after serving his 18 years.

American history, our government, and the way America functions today is mainly credit to the great beneficences made by Thomas Jefferson. The great man wrote the one of the most important documents in American history: The Declaration of Independence. Jefferson is honored in America for his effortless work in his lifetime. He spent most of his career working for the government, he was a creative man and worker, and contributed to the history and development of America.
The ideas of the Enlightenment influenced the American Revolution and the formation of the American Government. Firstly, The Enlightenment was a philosophical evolution that emphasized the aged ideas of the Greeks and Romans. In addition, the major philosophers of this time period were Voltaire, John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, Rousseau, Adam Smith and Isaac Newton. Their ideals include having an absolute monarch as a government (T.H), the separation of powers (Mont.), the government should not interfere with a free market economy (A.S), the freedom of speech (Volt.), the government could be overruled (J.L), and the government should rule according to the will of the people. Nevertheless, these ideals are important because they shaped the government that we have today.
Thomas Jefferson’s works and ideas laid the foundation for several key aspects on the limits of the United States government, the idea of separation of church and state, and the importance of personal rights. Jefferson wrote many influential pieces of literature which pushed the concept of having limited government power. Jefferson wanted America not to be like the European monarchies that fell due to religious strife, so he emphasized a secular government. Jefferson, following closely with the ideas of John Locke, stressed the importance of the protection of individual rights against the government. Thomas Jefferson believed that a government should have limitations.
There were significant changes in the hierarchy within the states. The American society became more egalitarian and less deferential, more meritocratic and less aristocratic.
