This essay was written as assignment for the MBA program at Thomas More College. The purpose of this paper is to give the reader a brief insight in my personal vision and how an MBA will be helpful to achieve my goals. The first part will summarize my past experience and will give some insights on what I consider important skills for my professional life. The second part of the essay will focus on my short and long term goals. Lastly, it will be briefly described why I think an MBA program is a good way to pursue my personal vision. My study program put a lot of emphasis on gaining practical experience while studying. Besides numerous student consulting projects in different industries, we were also encouraged to work fulltime during our studies. My first fulltime position was in the strategic HR department of METRO AG. Even though I enjoyed my work, I realized pretty quickly that I would not strive for a career in HR. My responsibility is the optimization of non-manufacturing processes in order to facilitate the company’s growth perspective over the next years. This abstract responsibility translated into the optimization of the company’s current order fulfilment process. My main tasks contain value stream and process mapping as well as the identification and development of appropriate improvement measures. In this diverse job, I have had the chance to gain experience in highly analytical work, project management, business operations, and change management. I plan to stay with the company for the next couple of years. My boss wants to see me in a managerial position and thus, he supported my decision to go for my MBA. This position will be in operations and will require me to pursue team leader skills. I know that due to my young age I might face difficulties on an interpersonal level. People who are much older and have a lot more experience than I do, will have to report to me and it is just natural that there might be some resistance. One of my goals for the MBA program is how to learn managing this challenge
