1. Thomas More is the author of Utopia. He was born in 1478, and was the son of a judge. He attended school in Oxford, in which he studied greek studies, theology, literature, and philophy. He then went on to continue to study law. He became a laywer and was elected to parliment at the age of 26. He became Chancellor at the age of 51. More was a devoted Catholic and was sentenced to death in 1535 for not signing Oath of Supremacy that would have given more powers to king of the time than the pope. More wrote Utupia because he was not satiesfied with the society of England as well as the corruption going on at the time in the government as well as the church. Before doing so Raphael points out the problems in Englan while he was there for several months. He tells how people with no skills are cast out when their master dies and in the process those people have to turn to thievery to stay alive, and the government has encourage this by not helping those people out. Other examples of the plagues of the society in Europe is how farmers are evicted or cheated and forced out and thus have to turn to stealing as well. He mentions that the rich should be stopped from cornering markets and establishing virtual monopolies such as wool market. The number of people who do nothing should be reduced and the revival of agriculture antd the wool industry would help so that everyone could find work.
