Both Thor and Beowulf are iconic figures in Anglo-Saxon literature and Norse mythology. As the son of Odin, Thor would be the Prince of Asgard, the realm they live in. Beowulf, on the other hand, is a Prince from Geatland. Although both Thor and Beowulf are iconic heroes, they are heroic in many different ways. Thor is portrayed as a defender of his people from evil, while Beowulf is portrayed as the ideal brave warrior who fights for the better of his kingdom. While representing different aspects of heroism, they are both celebrated for their courage and bravery. Beowulf, the prince of Geatland, is asked to slay a monster by the name of Grendel in Hrothgar’s kingdom. This time, Beowulf was ready and attacked Grendel, eventually ripping his arm off, and killing him. After Beowulf slays the monster, Hrothgar jumps to his death so Beowulf can become king. In Beowulf’s later years, a dragon attacks the kingdom, spitting flames all over. Beowulf ties his arm to the dragon’s body with a metal chain, allowing him to rip the dragon's heart out and kill it. Unfortunately, Beowulf died shortly after due to injuries but died a hero to the kingdom. Thor, the prince of Asgard, is the soon-to-be King of Asgard due to his father, Odin’s old age. On the day of inheritance, the Frost Giants invade the palace, in search of the tesseract. Thor starts a war with the Frost Giants and because of this, Odin banishes Thor to Earth without his powers or his Hammer. Loki then commands the Destroyer to go to Earth and kill Thor. Thor tries to bargain with Loki, offering himself to save the people of Earth, proving him worthy to wield his Hammer, Mjolnir once again.
