Jaws is an American thriller/suspense that plays into human fears, the fear that people sometimes do not even know they have until they have to face it. The blockbuster describes the summer story that turned into a disaster and put fear into people partially because of water, but more because of the inhabitants of the water. So to what genre does Jaws actually relate to? Many sources describe the film Jaws as a thriller film and other sources describe it as a suspense film, however there could be an argument that it has the features of both genres and could be classified under both. If we talk about Jaws as a thriller we could say that there are indisputable elements of thriller in the movie, such as when you are watching the movie you feel anxiety and/or anticipation when the shark attacks the people, or how throughout the movie there are numerous fatalities which also makes you feel scared or stressed. Another component of thriller in Jaws is that there are loads of moments of unknown such as during an attack by the shark that makes the viewer feel tense, thrilled, excited or anxious. Over the course of the movie the characters are extremely stressed which in turn makes the viewer feel stressed as well. The fact that the characters are often in unfamiliar environments and in danger would be another reason for fright, anxiousness or tension. When we talk about Jaws as a suspense movie, we can say that the characters are continuously in fear which makes the viewers be in fear as well. A factor that adds suspense to the movie is that the characters cannot receive help, the environment they are in and the basic situation prevents them from getting any sort of help (like the boat in the middle of the sea, without a radio and without anyone or anything around to help
