Tiananmen Protest Tiananmen Protest was one of the major protests in Chinese history. According to the Tiananmen Protest documentary, The Gate of Heavenly Peace, “China was in danger, and corrupt officials didn't care. Young intellectuals felt they must place their lives on the line to awaken the people. They aimed to save the nation through democracy and modern science, and the discarding of oppressive traditions.” Both students and workers realized that the significant problems in society so they did the protest in order to talk with central government. As the university expanded after 1949, most students had chance to enroll in college. At the same time, job competition increased and caused the unfair situation in society. Based on journal Tiananmen Square Protest and College Job Placement Reform in the 1980s, “ As the college job placement system reform placed a greater burden on the individual student to find a job for him or herself, the civil service recruitment system remained opaque and was widely viewed as unfair.” Corruption influenced the civil system and most citizen could not find great job because they did not have strong relationship. According to the survey in the article, “Students with poor grades but powerful parents got good jobs while good students with no connections had to compete for jobs as waiters in hotels or shop assistants in departmental stores to earn a good salary as the gateway to an open job platform was essentially closed for them.” Although Chinese government tried to hide information of Tiananmen Protests, corruption problems still existed, more importantly, it influenced the labor market. If society continued this system, people who had strong ability did not have chance to explore, on contrats, society was developed by those poor grade students.
