The Pitfalls Plaguing Tidal Music Streaming

If you've heard anything at all about Jay-Z's new music streaming company Tidal it was most likely not something flattering. Almost anytime a new article is written about the high-quality audio streaming service it is discussing one of the many woes Jay's company has faced since launching. Let's take a look at what some of the complaints surrounding Tidal include and decide how well founded they actually are.

To start, we should really figure out the main selling points Tidal is pushing. The initial marquee spoke loud to Tidal's lossless audio. Lossless audio is a higher quality form of music than any of the other major streaming services are offering right now. Spotify's offers a high-quality Ogg format for its premium users which is not as good as what Tidal is offering. Tidal is streaming music around 1411 kilobytes per second (kbs) while Spotify maxes out at 320 kbs. So, what's the problem? Unless you have a great pair of headphones and a good ear, you might not notice the difference. Jay-z has talked about Tidal being an “artist-owned company for artists,” but how true is this? Jay hosted an all-star event with a host of fellow musicians who are representing the new streaming company. Kanye, Daft Punk, Jack White, Chris Martin, Rihanna and even Madonna were all apart of the line-up showing Tidal love at the event, which is a great roster except for these are not the artists who need a service like Tidal to help them make some of their money back. All of these artists are superstars with a giant bank account. It's pretty hard to get an average listener to fork over $20 a month to give money to super rich
