In 2007, I, along with a few of my peers, founded the Little Lemon Drop Jr. Guild as a way to give back to our community. Since then, this nonprofit organization has raised thousands of dollars that has gone to support uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Throughout my middle school and high school years, I have been very involved with this group. When I had the opportunity to choose a service placement for this year, I immediately knew I would be doing my service through the Little Lemon Drop Jr. Guild because of my previous involvement with the guild and my passion for the cause the guild supports.
For my service leaning assignment, I volunteered at the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival in support of the Montgomery County Food Bank receiving donations at the festival entrance. In volunteering at the event, I learned the differences in service learning, volunteerism and community service and will provide details in what I learned a about each. I will also provide details and examples of teamwork, communication and networking experiences gained while at the event. A brief overview of the Montgomery County Food bank will also be provided with information on the assignment task, measurable success and interaction with fellow students and organization directors.
I could not have been more wrong. My family continued to visit the science center and every time we walked by the wall with volunteer applications, I felt my heart break more and more. Nonetheless, I persisted – waiting for the day when I could take an application. On the day I turned sixteen I made a point of going to the Science Center to fill out a coveted volunteer application.
I was told to help them in any way needed. I organized what I would do to help them improve. The first step was the encouragement process. I would motivate them to try it out because they do not know if it is hard unless they try it. Next step, I was expected to help and teach them basics for their perspective equipment that they were chosen for.

Throughout high school I have participated in many different activities and programs, but one of the opportunities I was given I will carry with me forever. As a junior at River Valley I participated in the Marion General Teen Volunteer Program. After interviewing and being placed in the physical therapy unit I took the opportunity to branch out into other areas of the hospital. I soon made my way to the labor and delivery floor where everyday a miracle happened. My duties while volunteering included assisting the nurses during hearing checks, changing diapers, and rocking crying infants in special care.
I also helped run our school carnival and class booths. My suggestions that were used were the bottle flipping race and treasure hunt. As part of my responsibilities as class representative, I was responsible for getting supplies, setting up and taking down the game, and running the game when students came to play. I am a very good student, I have always earned 4’s and 5’s in every class, social skills, and work habits. I was also involved in a program called women in history at my school.
The most recent act of helping others is helping new Alpena High School student Lark Collins get to know her way around the school and become one of her very good friends. It
By graduation, every student knew each other and felt connected as Keller graduates. Due to a small student-to-teacher ratio, we were able to bond with our teachers. Many of our teachers continue to serve as our mentors. Our schools also taught us the important of service to our community, enhancing Keller’s already communal feel. From the age of 14, I participated in enhancement projects at my high school and began volunteering for the City of Keller, feeling further connected to the city.
This assembly changed the culture of the school, leaving many students touched and reducing the number of office referrals. I additionally established the Friends of Rachel Club, which is dedicated to spreading random acts of
Colorblindness in the U.S. seems like it would create a very fair and just society and treat everyone equal. I think it would be both beneficial and detrimental. It would be beneficial because it would eliminate the people that actually do treat the dominant group higher than the minority, but it would detrimental because it create too much of a equal society. There needs to be people that excel over other people because it benefits everyone even when a white person excels over a black person. For example, if a white person and a black person are the last two options for a job position, and the white person gets the job, some people are going to overreact about it and say that the employer chose that person just because they were white, when in reality, that person was just more qualified.
During the summer of 2015, I drove to Lipscomb University’s campus with my mandatory khaki shorts and a positive attitude. I knew it was an honor that I was given the chance to attend Volunteer Girls State, but I had no idea to what extent. I grab my bags, walk to registration, and instantaneously get fixed inside a cloud of smiles, greetings, and positivity. It was almost overwhelming just how cheerful the atmosphere was, but it was tremendously refreshing. I told my mom goodbye and glanced over my busy itinerary with my roommate just before heading to the first of many Davis City meetings.
A dye is a coloured substance that has an affinity, a bond with a physical surface, to the substrate to which it is being applied. Dyes are usually soluble in water. Dyes are used to change the perceived colour of an object. Dyes consist of 2 main parts: chromohore and auxochrome. Before 1856, all dyes were obtained from natural resources.
What? Over the past semester, I have taken part in a service learning placement to better understand the diversity that occurs within the Hamilton community, where I will be doing various clinical placements in subsequent years in my nursing program. My particular placement was at an elementary school, Pauline Johnson Elementary School, where I spend three hours every week with a second-grade class. In my role as a service learner, I acted as a teacher 's assistant. During class time, I would go around and help various students with their work, encourage students to try their best, supervise during nutrition breaks and interact with students during music and gym classes.
1. In the summer of 2017, I volunteered once a week for 6-8 weeks with an organization called The First Tee, which works with youth to teach them life skills via the game of golf. Starting as young as 5-6 years old, the participants learn to play golf and develop their skills in the sport, but a large aspect of the organization’s mission is to teach children life skills such as integrity, honesty, and responsibility. Through golf they learn to be courteous to those around them and to always act with integrity as well.
