Tiger Woods: A champion in the building In the United States, Eldrick Tont Woods or much better known as Tiger Woods is one of the most successful and accomplished golfers in the history of the sport. His professional golf career started in 1996, and he quickly made an impact by winning his first major tournament, the Masters, in 1997 (“Tiger Woods''). “Woods continued to dominate the sport of golf, winning a total of 82 PGA Tour events, including 15 major championships.” According to Taylormade Golf, “He is second only to Jack Nicklaus in the number of major championships won.” Woods' impact on the world goes beyond his impressive records on the course. “On July 23, 2000, Woods became the fifth player in golf history, and the youngest, to complete the career Grand Slam of the four major championships by winning the British Open.”His success and popularity also helped to raise the profile of the sport and bring new fans to the sport. …show more content…

According to Britannica “In 1996, he founded the Tiger Woods Foundation, a nonprofit organization that aims to provide educational opportunities for underprivileged children.” The foundation has since helped thousands of students achieve their goals through programs such as the Tiger Woods Learning Centers and the Earl Woods Scholarship Program (Dawkins). Woods has done very much for his foundation but he does more for the community than just his learning centers. “In 2006, he donated $10 million to establish the Tiger Woods Foundation's National Junior Golf Team, which aims to provide opportunities for young golfers to compete at the national level (“Tiger Woods''). “He has also donated millions to disaster relief efforts, including those following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.”
