The drug organizations are continuously at war with their adversaries to gain or control smuggling routes near the borderline. As a result, many Mexican cities have relatively high rates of violence and death counts. The lack of authority in the country has allowed the drug organizations to operate successfully to control their territory and represent themselves as the law. Another reason drug organizations are in constant warfare is to obtain echelon status because they assume of becoming the mightiest in their own perspective. The drug cartel resides in the border city of its name and they smuggle across the United States creating super tunnels. The Tijuana cartel is also known as the Arellano Felix organization because the cartel has been run by the family. Initially, the Arellano brothers operated with the legendary mafioso, Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo, also known as the godfather smuggling marijuana and heroin. After the apprehension of the godfather, he divided his territories into sections to his allies. According to the article, “from prison El Padrino divided up his territories: Guzman and his partner, Hector Luis Palma Salazar, got parts of Baja California and Sonora; Rafael Aguilar Guajardo would get from Juarez to Nuevo Laredo (the Carrillo Fuentes brothers would later take over this route); and the Arellano Felix brothers would get Tijuana” (Crime, Insight). The Tijuana organization rapidly flourished their business due to their strategic location to the border, however they also made the Sinaloa cartel their nemesis after killing a close associate of their leader. The Tijuana Cartel at one time was considered the most dangerous cartel, however the organization started to crumble after the death of one of its leader. Ramon Arellano Felix constructed a plan to kill a faction leader of the Sinaloa cartel in Mazatlán, Sinaloa but got traced and killed by the Mexican government. After the death of Ramon, Benjamin, his older brother, was captured and extradited to the United States and the depleted organization continued to lose power.
