goodness and light. Although the boy is crippled, he portrayed an angelic character that acted as a reminder of joy, especially around Christmas time. Tiny Tim had the power to turn a Christmas hating, ungrateful person into someone who realizes the joy and meaning of Christmas. This all simply happened because of the acknowledgement of the presence of, unfortunate yet blessed, Tim.
The appearance of Tiny Tim is not exactly one you would expect to see due to his situation. Young and living in poverty, the son of Bob Crachit, was not the luckiest of the characters in A Christmas Carol. Tim was crippled, and he had iron frames supporting his limbs. While the original thought may have been pity, the only reactions discussed in the story where those expressed in both sympathetic and blessed ways. Tiny Tim had the ability to change others, simply with his presence, because of how they reacted towards him. For example, in Stave Three, when the Ghost of Christmas Present took Scrooge to see the Cratchit’s Christmas, it was one of the main events that changed Scrooge as person. After seeing Tim, Scrooge quickly asked the spirit if Tim would live. The spirit’s reply made Scrooge, an unemotional person, act very emotional, as he even cried, “Oh no, Kind Spirit; say he will be spared!” In Stave Four, when the Ghost of Christmases Yet to Come takes Scrooge back to the Cratchit house, where they are mourning the loss of Tim. The Cratchit family had seemed to have lost the biggest and greatest part of their Christmas spirit. They still tried be joyous for the sake of Tim, remembering him fondly. “Spirit of Tiny Tim, thy childish essence was from God.” Scrooge again reacts, begging the ghost to tell him if there is a way for Tim to be saved. In Stave 5, Scrooge becomes a changed man because of Tim, and in turn he saved the life of Tim.
